Typical Teenager Problems

A Typical Teenager Issue: Homework Load
- An example of a typical teenager issue is that they have too much homework load. This means that the child has to sleep late and is always tired or in a bad mood because he lacks sleep. Also having too much homework limits the teen in doing various activities such as sports, dance or musical instruments. Also having too much homework induces extra stress on the child because he is always worried if he will be able to complete all the homework assigned.
- A solution proposed is that the student should use his or her free periods or other free times to get as much homework done ad possible. So that when the child gets home he does not have such a big homework load. Furthermore, sometimes teachers give us class time (usually when you have a quiz or test) to complete some of the assignments.
- Unfortunately this solution does not always wrok because not everyone has free period. Also some the homework assigned cannot be completed in school they either require internet (computer in library are rarely free) or for you to ask your parents or some of the websites blocked by the school (youtube).
- What I think is a good solution is to plan and organize yourself and seperate the homework load throughout one week. for on Mondays of B week we always complete the Histor and French assignment leaving math for your tuesday free period (if you have one). On the Tuesdays of B week we complete our Arabic and English homework and so on. All in all, in my opinion when dealing with homework organization is key.

Progressivism & Unmarried Women
Progressivism is a political attitude which encourages and promotes change and reform. The goal of political progressives is to improve the standard of living (end child labor, better wages, insurance, social security systems etc) by giving more power to the municipal and federal government. These ideologies have started to emerge since the late 19th century however there are modern progressives who try to follow on their ancestor’s footsteps. One major problem these people are trying to combat in America is to advocate the
rights and life of unmarried women. Unmarried women represent 63% of unemployed women and 60% without health insurance. There are many reasons behind these inequalities. One is that they face discrimination because they are usually hired for lower paying jobs and have lower wages than men. Furthermore these jobs frequently do not include health insurance, sick time off and other basic needs. These single mothers have to take care of their children but child care is very expensive and most women cannot afford it. In addition things such as health insurance and retirement plans have been designed for marries couples. All of these have contributed to the low standard of living of unmarried women. The Center for American Progress and other Progressives has proposed some solutions to these problems.
1. They would like the Health care system that was proposed by President Obama to be instated because it would make health care affordable and available.
2. The government should expand Child care so it could provide funding to low income families such as unmarried women.
3. The government should pass acts that give single women job and training opportunities for “good” jobs.
4. Enforce the Paycheck Fairness Act which would strengthen the stop of women discrimination when it came to wages.
Progressive thinkers really believe that these changes and reforms would solve this problem and improve the country’s economy as a whole because unmarried women make up a fifth of the US workers and they are growing as a consumer group which is essential for a successful economy.

Imerialism Negative or Positive?

The reasons and arguments given for imperialism were numerous. Some people wanted to expand because they thought it was their destiny and duty to spread the superior American culture. These people usually had a big sense of nationalism. Others were driven by competition with European nations. Various seeked military bases in strategic areas and wanted refueling bases all over the world in case of war. And a few were missionaries and wanted to spread Christian beliefs. Economically some people wanted access to new markets such as China and they had an overproduction of goods and needed places to sell them and finally they believed America needed resources such as petroleum and rubber. All in all people truly believed imperialism would not only benefit them but other nations as well.
An example of US imperialism is its interference with Cuba. The Spaniards had to deal with the rebellion of Cuban people. The Cubans asked for the US help which after a lot of pressure McKinley (the current president) granted. This started the Spanish-American War. It ended when the Americans sunk all the Spanish ship. And the Treaty of Paris was signed which listed Cuba as an independent country and stated that Spain gives up Philippines, Puerto Rico, and Guam to the US for $20 million.
Some people were against imperialism and their arguments were as numerous as those who encouraged it. One argument stated that the countries that were in control of the US did not have the same rights as US citizens which were anticonstitutional. Another thing criticized was the manner from which expansion took place. They sent huge armies and used force to take over a country. People were scared these methods would be used within the country. Furthermore, racism grew because all these new ethnic groups moved to America and this started prejudice. Also some stipulated it was very expensive to annex a country and therefore America should stop.
All in all the positives did outweigh the negatives. Even though the arguments for imperialism were egoistical and selfish the outcome aided many countries such as Cuba who were suffering under the Spanish rule. However the manner in which imperialism occurred took many lives and was catastrophic the outcome saved many lives and helped many countries.

Thousands Flee Wrecked Haitian Capital

Thousands of people from Port au Prince, Haiti are trying to flee their city to go to the countryside in search of food, stability and shelter. They are crammed in little buses with slogans of hope painted on the side such as "Courage Mon Frère" or "Christ est la Réponse". Some carry stuffed suitcases while others carry only enugh money to pay the transport to the interior of Haiti. Some are going to see friends and family members who live in the countryside while others just want to get out of the wrecked capital of Port au Prince.
For the pepople that have decided to stay or cannot afford to leave, the united nations and world food program have decided to give 200 tons of food aid to more than 95,OOO poepple in 8 different places. Hopefully this will help the poor victims from the terrible earthquake.
*Note* On January 19 2010 we are raising awareness about the catastrophe that has hit Haiti by wearing red. Please participate in this rally and if you'd like to make donations please visit http://edition.cnn.com/2010/LIVING/01/13/haiti.earthquake.how.to.help/index.html?hpt=T2

Congressional Reconstruction
Black men were not allowed to met after sunset. Also freemen who did not work could be fined, whipped or sold for a year's labor.Plus freemen had to sign contracts that lasted a year and if they quit in the middle of their contract they lost the wages they earned. Finally, Blacks were not allowed to rent land or homes except in rural areas. Tuesday, December 8, 2009
THE UNITED STATES ENTER A PERIOD OF RECONSTRUCTION
and farm machinery. It had ruined factories, cities and ports. Basically, it had destroyed most of the southern income. The southerners were left with nothing. Most of the plantation owners had worthless confederate money and could not afford to hire workers. Some even had to sell their lands to be able to pay their debts. However poor white smoothers didn’t have land to sell, plus they couldn’t find jobs because of the competition from freedmen. Most had to resort to move to frontier lands.Lincoln had made a plan called the reconstruction plan to help the south acquire the north’s pardon and to have a say in the union’s government again. This plan stated that any confederate could take an oath of allegiance to the Union and gain the south’s pardon, except if this southerner had killed African American war prisoners. It also permitted each state to write its constitution if it had 10 percent of the voters who had taken the oath. Finally, the plan stated that southern states would resume full participation in the union and its government. However Lincoln’s plan was vetoed and never put into practice. Yet, after his death, his democrat vice president, Andrew Johnson took the presidency and made a new reconstruction plan based on Lincoln’s. Except this construction plan was more forgiving toward the south. Also it required all states to abolish slavery and all slaves to be free.
Although the African American population was free, life was very hard for them. Some African American’s went to search for their families which had been torn apart by white slave sellers, but most could not find them. Others choose to continue working for their former masters. Still, most ventured out to try and find jobs. This task was very hard because most of the slaves were illiterate and the job competition was very hard. Many freemen found themselves homeless, jobless and hungry. Most slaves could not afford to buy land and President Johnson refused to redistribute the land many of the slaves’ ancestors had worked on (the southern lands). Nevertheless, those who could afford land sold it to other freemen to try and help them. Prior to Lincoln’s death the freedmen bureau helped black southerners adjust to freedom by giving them clothing, medical supplies and meals. Also they gave more than 250,000 blacks a formal education. Unfortunately, this agency lacked a strong support in the congress especially after Lincoln’s death. Therefore the agency was dismantled.
The period of reconstruction is very hard on white southerners and especially hard on black freemen because even though they are free they still don’t have the same rights as the white men. The civil war had destroyed so many resources that it was hard for a man to make a living in the south after the war. However, the government tried to aid the south by accepting their forgiveness and not punishing them for their crimes. Still it was hard for many people to gain money in this terrible period of reconstruction.

Effects of the Civil War

Knowlege from the Video
In the south, slaves owners treated their slaves like cattle or goods one has bought. It is very rare that families stayed united. The poor slaves were beaten and mistreated. There were very few rebellions. One notable one was one lead by an leterate slave callednTurner who succeeded in killing many whites with the help of other slaves. This lead to the fact that slaves weren't allowed to be leterate and couls not have meetings without the presence of a white man.
The underground railroad was a link between safe houses until liberty. (usually in Canada) This was developped by Harriett Tubman a legendary abolishionist who made 19 trips to save slaves.
Northern Awareness
In the north since slavery was abolished, people were not aware of the harsh treatment the slaves had to endure. A book called Uncle Tom's Cabin enlightened the Notheners. it said that slavery was against the Christen religion. It was a northern bestseller but southners did not like it at all. They tried to write about how slaved preferred to work in their plantations than to be free. However, these books were not popular.
Documentary
The civil war was awful, it was were americans killed some of their own. Soo many people were slaughtered because of the new inventions of rifles and guns. 2% of the population died during that war. The war devastated land and families. It ade some poeple rich and mostly others poor. Scholars believed this war changed America forever.
