Soldier's Letter

Dear Mom and Dad,

I know I havent written for a while but we had to change camps because the Germans had invaded our trench. Do not worry I am not injured pysically but the mental pain is unsustainble. Though I have made many friends which I am sure will be my friends for life. But seeing them die one by one and havong death and rotting bodies all around is horrible and depressing. However we know it is an honor and a priviledge to fight for our country and protect its interest. There is some good news I 'd like to report our tanks will be arriving soon so I will help out the captain in managing and firing from it. However there may have some delay because of the rain which it seems will never stop. I miss home and all it has you guys and my brothers and sisters. I especially miss the food because here it is scarce and usually filthy from the rats that have infested our trench but the worst part about the trench is trench foor which many of my fellow patriots suffer from. Another seemingly minor issue but takes a huge toll in our life is the lice e cannot keep from scratching and theyy seem to multiply. Luckily I have recently heard that our ennemies are suffering from influenza which have made them weak so we are practically sure to win the next battle ( especially if the tanks come). With these tanks will be news from Paris and the US hopefully we will learn that those Yankees will join the war and help exterminate the central powers. If this happens I think I will be home for next Christmas to celebrate with all my family. All in all I hope you are proud of me and that you believe in this cause

Love and Kisses

John
